Round 10 - Leigh "Paskie" Paske, Tony Aked & Bruce "Bruiser" Lee Round!

This weeks final home & away round is named after 3 Old Boys Life Members, namely: Leigh "Paskie" Paske, Tony Aked & Bruce "Bruiser" Lee!             

The Gold Coast AFL Masters would like to congratulate Paskie, Tony Aked & Bruiser and also thank them for all their hard work & efforts over the years

The background of these 3 gents is:

Tony Aked - Southport - Past league President
Leigh "Paskie" Paske- Umpire - 10+yrs umpire
Bruce "Bruiser" Lee - Southport - Past Leauge Vice President

Games this week:
11.30      Burleigh Vs Labrador
1pm        Broadbeach Vs Surfers

No upset results in Round 8!

Broadbeach continued on their merry way with another comfortable win over Burleigh, although the scoreboard wasn't  a true reflection as Burleigh were competitive all day.

The test for Broadbeach will come over the next few weeks when they take on Labrador (who defeated them with an after the siren kick last time) and then they face Surfers in the last round which should determine who is the minor premiers for 2010.

In the other game, Surfers defeated an undermanned Labrador, with Coach Dean Odewahn taking to the field and slotted through 4 majors in what was another impressive performance as the Surfers boys start to really focus on the weeks ahead.

Round 7 - Mark ‘Buddah’ Vanner & Eric ‘Lotto’ Curruthers Round!

This weeks round is named after 2 Old Boys Life Members, namely Buddah & Lotto

Broadbeach bounce back to defeat Surfers in close encounter in Round 7

Broady kept the premiership race wide open with a hardly fought defeat over Surfers.   Whilst in ht eother game, Labrador also continued good recent run to defeat a gallant Burleigh

Round 7 - Andy 'Chopper' Peters & Dennis 'Whiz' Wheeler Round!

This weeks round is named after 2 Old Boys Life Members, namely Whiz & Chopper              

The Gold Coast AFL Masters woukld like to congratulations Whiz & Chopper and also thank them for all their hard work & efforts over the years

This weekends games (Sunday 18th July) are at Broadbeach

                 Broady V Surfers @ 11am
                 Labrador V Burleigh @ 12:30

Round 6 of the Gold Coast AFL Masters competition saw an upset result when an improving Labrador upset reigning premiers Broadbeach with an exciting after the siren win.

In the other game, Surfers easily accounted for Burleigh, a result which has now left Surfers with a 2 game buffer on the rest of the field

Next Round (Sunday 18th July) sees the Grand Final rematch when Broadbeach take on Surfers.   After 2 losses over the last 3 rounds, Broadbeach will be keen to get their season back on track against their arch enemies Surfers.

Dont forget the Pan Pacific Games on the Gold Coast from the 6-14 November (this is the inaugural Aussie Rules competition being played at the Pan Pacs) - anyone wanting to enter as an individual plesase let Matt Glynn know (0434 194 524)

Remember you are never too old to play as the older we get the faster we were.

21ST YEAR CELEBRATIONS FOR FOOTY ON THE GOLD COAST IN 2010:

·        The 2010 season represents the 21st year that old boys footy has been played on the Gold Coast.

·        Keep an eye on the website for some 21st celebrations later in the year!  

CREATION OF NEW OVER 35's DIVISION IN 2010:

·        This year the Gold Coast Old Boys league has formed an affiliation with the Queensland AFL Masters

·        The new league will be called the ‘Gold Coast AFL Masters’.

·        The traditional Over 30' League will operate as normal

·        The new division in 2010 will be the Over 35's division

Over 30' League:

·        Broadbeach

·        Labrador

·        Surfers Paradise

·        Burleigh

·        Robina

 ·        Coomera 

Over 35' League:

·        Palm Beach

·        Mudgeeraba

·        Pac Pines

·        Broadbeach

·        Plus several Brisbane based teams (Brisbane based teams TBC)  

SEASON COMMENCEMENT DATES:

·        Season games commence on the 27th March

·        Games are played every second Sunday, predominately on the Gold Coast, and also including a few bus trips away.   

2010 CARNIVALS:

·        The National Carnival will be held in Canberra from 12-19 October (where all states compete against each other in their respective age groups from 35’ to over 55’s for bragging rights of being National Champions and selection of All Australian teams). 

·        Other representative opportunities include the:

                    International series against the Irish (using the round ball - October/November)

                    Townsville country carnival in June

                    Bali 9’s

                    Pan Pacific Games - Gold Coast 6-14 Nov (inaugural Aussie Rules comp to be played at the Pan Pacs).
